How to find Polish freelance developers
I worked with many Polish developers at Skyscanner and I can tell you from my own experience that they are an intelligent, hard-working bunch. Obviously, this is just a profile – I mean, I’m sure you can find British developers who are better than Polish developers etc, but in general they make great programmers.
You don’t have to take my word for it either – at time of writing, topcoder.com has Polish coders ranked #2 in the world just behind Russian coders.
I’m based in the UK and I frequently visit Poland so it probably makes more sense for me than most to seek out Polish coders – but where to find them?
Below I present my findings from the top freelancer websites to show you where to source Polish coders for your latest project.
Polish programmers on Freelancer.com
I found 26 Polish freelancers on freelancer. These were a mixed bag of virtual assistants and coders. I would certainly consider this very slim pickings, so if you’re looking for Polish coders don’t bother with Freelancer.com. The vast majority of these Polish freelancers hadn’t even completed 1 project on Freelancer.com so if you’re looking for Polish freelancers, stay away.
Polish coders on elance.com
On elance.com there are many more Polish coders and web designers. A quick search and I found 358 Polish freelancers, almost all of whom have completed projects. These freelancers vary from coders, web designers, db experts to graphic designers and virtual assistants.
Polish freelancers on Guru.com
Guru.com is quite a nice website for freelancers – in stark contrast to freelancer.com which has a very buggy interface.
When I performed a search on here for Polish freelancers I found 1582 freelancers which is phenomenal, BUT only 9 of these Polish freelancers had any reviews making me doubt the data. A closer look reveals that many of these ‘gurus’ are non-coder related, e.g. sound engineers, which might explain both why there are so many AND why so few have reviews.
Specifically for coders, there are just over 500 of them on guru.com. Only 3 of these had reviews, indicating very few are actually finding work on this website – this could be good or bad – it could be good in that you may find yourself a bargain, or it may be bad that you waste time on a site that these guys don’t visit.
Polish coders on odesk.com
I managed to find 1319 Polish freelancers and coders on odesk.com, the vast majority of whom have reviews.
If I change my search to show Polish freelancers who have billed for at least 100 hours, I see 375 of them – pretty decent.
Polish freelancers on PeoplePerHour.com
People Per Hour is fairly new but it’s a good site for finding freelancers. My search found 282 Polish freelancers who have a portfolio of work – when I extend this to all Polish freelancers then I found 1400 freelancers.
Polish coders on HubstaffTalent.com
Regarding Hubstaff Talent although there aren’t many,( just 3 WordPress developers that are Polish there at the moment) I really have to mention them on this list for two reasons, firstly, the site is free and truly set up with the user in mind. They understand the process of recruiting going beyond the parameters of their platform and set up to accommodate Skype and linking up outside their framework. The hope with it being free, I guess, is that they will sell more of their core Hubstaff tracking/autopay software as an off-shot, But they have really created a huge free noticeboard for jobs and freelancers to achieve this. Secondly, they approached AWD to ask for a review, and although I was dismissive, the first reason has led to this article update.
Summary
It pays to look around if you’re hunting for Polish freelancers. Based on the searches from above, Freelancer should be avoided if you’re looking for Polish coders.
It looks like elance.com has the most amount of actively working Polish freelancers, so I’ll be posting my next jobs there.
In the near future I imagine that Hubstaff Talents fresh approach might have me heading there for the long term though.
